The Downsmen Corps Youth Marching Band

  • The Downsmen are a non-profit making independent youth organisation with a membership of young people drawn from in and around the Crowborough area of East Sussex.

We are a Marching Band consisting of Brass and Percussion (both marching and static) sections. Founded in 2001, the organisation provides a challenging and healthy hobby for young people of all ages, through a structured and positive learning environment, helping to instil the values of discipline, dedication and respect, which are subsequently carried into the community with a true sense of pride and purpose.

Our major annual activity is the construction of a ‘competitive show’, which we perform on a nationwide competitive circuit, run by the British Youth Band Association. We have been highly successful on this circuit in the past 5 years, winning several contests both in 2004 and 2005. We were also crowned ‘National Champions’ in 2004.

As well as this competitive circuit, we also provide entertainment for the general public through shows at fete’s, carnivals, parades and concerts. These shows often take us right across the South East.
