  • ABLE Project
Delivers time limited, school based support to vunerable children 5-11 who have been referred to the project.
The most widely accessed support program offers a holistic assessment of the child’s needs so objectives can be set to support him or her in reaching their potential. In particular children are supported to: improve their school attendance and attainment; reduce the number of school exclusions and their likelihood of becoming involved in crime; reduce the risk of becoming socially excluded; access health and other local services. Link workers give practical advice and support in a number of ways: advising on local services (health, education, finance, relationships, housing, support groups, etc); support with improving parenting skills; advising on managing and understanding children’s behaviour.

  • Bullying – help and support
We are working to prevent bullying in schools and the wider community. We have an anti-bulliying strategy, which aims to show our commitment to stopping bullying both in and out of school.
It's not just about physical abuse – kicking, hitting and pushing. Bullying includes verbal and emotional abuse too, such name calling, teasing, making threats or offensive comments, gossiping, being ignored or left out of groups, and spreading hurtful and untruthful rumours. Bullying can be done through a third party, or via text messages, emails and chat-rooms. Bullying can be defined as "deliberate hurtful behaviour, repeated over a period of time, where it is difficult for the victim to defend him or herself”.

Activities may include beach trips, country walks, and bike rides, cooking, pond dipping, treasure hunts, football, swimming, and arts and crafts. We also provide specialist breaks for children with specific needs; • Severe poverty • Domestic violence • Alcohol and drug abuse • Physical, emotional, neglect and sexual abuse • Dangerous environments and neighbourhoods • School exclusion • Social isolation • Victims and perpetrators of bullying • Low self-esteem • Young carers • Family illness • Bereavement Holidays take place throughout the school breaks and last for 5 nights. Volunteers are required to attend an interview and residential training day and successfully complete an enhanced Criminal Record Bureau check in accordance with relevant Child Protection legislation. We pay up to £30 of expenses, and meals and accommodation are also provided. Oundle School, Peterborough Pembrokeshire Activity Centre, Wales (Water sports themed) Wellington College, Berkshire A quote below from one of our current volunteers: ‘Volunteering was an awesome experience, I worked with some fantastic people and met children; who despite their tough backgrounds were able to forget all their troubles and just be children again. It is exhausting, and it can be challenging, but it is immensely rewarding. I would recommend the experience to anyone – and not just for the look on a child’s face when they see the sea for the first time!’ KJ - Volunteer Activity Volunteers must be: Aged 18 years and over, had experience working with children (ideally disadvantaged), Be Energetic, robust and resilient. Be fun-loving and child focused. Able to act as a positive role model to children. Able to set and maintain boundaries with children. Able to organise and lead children’s activities. A team worker who is able to adapt quickly in an ever changing environment. Ability to challenge discriminatory behaviour and bullying.

  • Inspire Tuition Centre
A UNIQUE AND EXCITING CONCEPT IN PRIVATE TUITION. AGES 3-ADULT
Our services are unique because whilst the centre uses a range of quality educational resources, the students genuinely work from their own needs, ideas and interests. Assessment is ongoing, using regular consultation and feedback, both written and verbal. Small groups (max 4 children or 6 for adult courses) also bring down the cost of private tuition to affordable prices whilst every student still gains from individual attention in all sessions. At Inspire Tuition, we work with pupils to build mini English and maths projects which they can see through to completion. Children build their literacy skills whilst working on individual reading and writing projects which culminate in a finished and IT presented product. In mathematics, they use Numicon plates and rods to build number skills and develop understanding of abstract concepts. They also work on individual turtle geometry projects using imagine logo. In addition to working with school students, we also offer adult courses in computer skills, helping to succeed in English and maths at home and Spanish language lessons. French and Italian lessons coming soon.
