Hasting & Bexhill Mencap Day Services

Hastings and Bexhill Mencap offer a wide range of activities and projects across our services for adults with learning disabilities. Whether you’re green-fingered, a keen cook, a budding actor or have a desire to dance, theres something for you here! Read on to find out more about what we can offer:

• Active Arts - is our performing and visual arts course for adults with learning disabilities. Students are taught by professional artists and performers.  Our magnificent end of year show gives students an opportunity to showcase their skills in the performing arts, with the visual arts groups providing back-drops and props for the sketches. The show is performed at the iconic De La Warr Pavilion and is a community event open to the general public. Lively and energetic the evenings entertainment leaves audiences wanting more, and shines the spotlight on inclusive arts.
• Open Door day service - Hastings and Bexhill Mencap provides a quality and meaningful day service, Open Door. Open Door is open 5 days a week from 9.30am – 4pm, we are a self-funded day service with members paying a fee to attend.
  Members have a choice of activities designed to encourage a positive and independent future.
  We work in a person-centred way to provide two different timetables: New Experiences (NeW) for members who enjoy an active life style, and Opportunities for Life (O4L) for those who prefer a slower pace.
  From gardening to craft, from golf to geo-caching, Open Door will keep you busy and active with a full timetable of activities and projects!
  Where possible, we are keen to support our members in voluntary or paid work placements. We enjoy collaborating on performing arts projects with Active Arts, also run by Hastings and Bexhill Mencap. Whenever we can, Open Door participates in community and national projects and we have even taken part in the Special Olympics!
