NDHLS Talk – Napoleon and Josephine, Northiam
December 11, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Its December; the days are shorter, nights are longer and Christmas is getting closer! And with the presentation on 11th December 2018, NDHLS is half way through its season of talks.
Tonight’s talk is presented by Chris Viner, owner of Soldiers In Rye and well-known authority on Napoleon Bonaparte’s military eminence in history. However, this talk is focused on the love story between Napoleon, first Emperor of France and his wife, Josephine. Is the story of their marriage really one of love? They wed at a time when marriage was usually for economic advantage or political power; marriage for love was rare. Although marriage required the consent of the couple, their wishes were not considered important! So, this remarkable tale is as fascinating today as it was when it unfolded at the end of the 18th century.
Please note that tonight’s festive refreshments are provided to members as part of their annual membership; guests will be required to pay a £5 entrance fee for tonight only.
