Music from the Sofa

This entry was last updated: 30th March, 2018

Music from the Sofa is a band/ensemble that plays the music of composer Nigel Goss.

We are a core group of nine musicians that perform together and in smaller groupings. The band at times expands, taking on more musicians for bigger projects and we work with choirs. The music is wide ranging and cross/genre ranging from jazz through folk, rock, classical, theatrical and electronics. Musicians and singers who would like to work with us should be good readers and improvisors. For non-reading singers demos can be provided. We frequently perform as a nine piece and we include several classic covers, often re-interpreted. We can play weddings and parties. We are based in Seaford, East Sussex. We support charity and in May 2016 raised over £1000 for Alfreston St. Andrews Church Restoration Fund with a Church tour and an ambitious concert based on 18th Century west gallery music practices that included jazz, live electronics and a unique composition for church bell ringing.

Nigel is happy to collaborate with theatre, puppet theatre, churches and cathedrals, dance companies to construct interesting projects. Previous work includes a piece for a Liverpool dancer based on party alienation; music for eight ice cream vans in Birmingham; music for Battle festival incorporating live radio broadcast, a cabaret band for the opening of New Road, Brighton Theatre Royal; a tour round five churches in one benifice, the band for Side Show Dave’s Bigger Bang Science Demo.

We would like to work with volunteer videographers, photographers and publicists. You can contact us on the phone number or on the contact page on the website, throughtwitter http://@musicfrmthsofa and
