SPIN (Single Parent Information Network)

SPIN is a voluntary organisation set up in 2005 to provide information to single parent families and operates in Brighton & Hove & surrounding areas of Sussex. This is provided proactively via regular postings on our SPIN Facebook group  where members can also post and ask each other for advice.

Regular information is posted about local events, activities, training, jobs, free donations and free tickets. SPIN has facilitated tickets to the Dome, made referrals for grocery and energy vouchers, and distributed donated makeup/toileteries.

Thanks to Household Support Funding over the last two years from Brighton & Hove city council, SPIN has distributed supermarket vouchers and funding for household furniture and white goods. A recent social media callout to help families in emergency and temporary accommodation produced an amazing response of donations of household goods to really help them get back on their feet and included clothing as well as gifts.

Members were also referred to Pelican Parcels who provide free children's clothes, toys, toileteries all year round plus Christmas presents for the entire family. SPIN worked with Pelican Parcels and Dunelm to provide gifts for the single parent families in December 2025.

SPIN has been given access to an amazing hub courtesy of the Benefact Group who also provide resources to support community groups, allowing volunteers to work in an office at Ansvar Insurance in Brighton.

SPIN is currently looking for volunteers in the following roles:

• Treasurer / Finance Officer - Help to manage our financial accounts and assist with fundraising. Tasks include preparing financial reports for committee meetings and funders, drafting funding bids, liaising with funders, and tracking progress from initial applications through to reporting on funds received.
• Membership Support Officer - Help to assess needs and provide support to single parents by facilitating referrals and funding applications to local and national organisations. This role is central to ensuring that members can access essential items, services and opportunities that improve quality of life. You may also assist with moderating the Facebook members group.
• Events Coordinator - Be responsible for coordinating our events, currently a monthly coffee morning for single parents in Brighton & Hove. This will include promoting the events via our online distribution list and posters/flyers, managing the Facebook event listings, coordinating venue bookings and overseeing the smooth running of the events on the day. You will be working with other volunteers, delegating tasks on occasion, and will be responsible for ensuring that all tasks are completed, leading to a successful calendar of events.
• PA to the Director - Provide administrative, organisational and communication support to help the Director manage day-to-day operations of the charity. This role helps ensure efficient running of SPIN’s activities, supports engagement with volunteers and members, and contributes to the overall effectiveness of the organisation.
