In 1993 our conductor Mark Andrew James got together with some enthusiastic musical friends and formed the Sussex Symphony Orchestra.
The orchestra is based in Brighton. Some of our musicians play or teach full-time but the orchestra spans a whole variety of professions – from civil engineers and financial advisers to lawyers, graphic designers and flight attendants.
The orchestra is run entirely by volunteers. The majority of our funding comes from concert ticket sales and the occasional grant, so we rely hugely on donations from our generous supporters.
