Description
Rotary Club of Bexhill will be hosting their annual Let's Sing Junior Choir competition at the White Rock Theatre Hastings on Friday 6th June. The competition will showcase music from nine junior schools from around East Sussex.
This year the schools will be:-
• Hailsham Primary School
• Sedlescombe Primary School
• Battle and Langton School
• Claremont Primary School
• St. Paul's Primary School
• Little Common Primary School
• King Offa Primary School
• West St. Leonards Primary School
• Ore Primary School
Since the pandemic we have seen a renewed interest in developing junior school choirs across the county, spurred on by the incentive to compete at this annual event. Our club believes that music adds a dimension to children's learning experience that will enhance their spirit of community engagement and sense of achievement.
Last year's winning choir, Battle and Langton School has seen a 100% increase in interest in joining the choir since winning the event and performing with Tenors Unlimited in November. Choir leader Ms. Louise Fletcher said ”The whole school was buzzing with excitement when we returned with the trophy in June 2024, we can't wait to get back on stage for this year's competition and show the world what we can achieve”.
This year the judging panel will be:-
• Claire Hamill - Singer Songwriter
• Father David Hill - Church and member of male voice choir
• Polo Piatti - Composer in London
• Mike Hatchard - Musician
In addition to the nine schools their will also be entertainment by Stagecoach doing songs from Matilda the musical. We will also have the Lifted Up Community Choir and possibly the Ukrainian choir.
The winners will receive a cheque for £250 plus the opportunity to perform on stage with professional singers Tenors UnLimited later in the year.
