The Coroner for the county of East Sussex is responsible for investigating sudden or unnatural deaths and establishing the causes of such deaths. In some instances, the Coroner may determine the cause of death after consultation with a doctor who has attended the deceased or the Medical Examiner. While in others cases a post mortem examination is required. In some circumstances, an inquest will be necessary so the Coroner can hear evidence and reach a conclusion. Occasionally a jury is called to assist.
