A national charity whose local volunteers in Newhaven keep a visual watch out to sea and along the coast.
NCI Newhaven is based in the former coastguard lookout tower that sits above Newhaven Fort. It would appeal to those interested in the sea and those who use the coastline. We operate in 3 or 4 hour watches from 0800 until 2000 in the summer and until sunset in the winter.
There is no upper age limit for volunteers but watchkeepers do need to be over 18.
No previous maritime experience is necessary and full training to become a watchkeeper is provided.
There is a dress code of a uniform which the member have to purchase themselves after the induction period. Fund-raising and social events are held.
