Description
Adfam East Sussex provides support to family members and friends who are affected by someone else’s alcohol or drug misuse.
We are part of a national organisation that was set up over 30 years ago to fill the gap in support to families. Our mission is to do this by:
- empowering families and friends to get the support they need.
- building the confidence, capacity and capability of frontline practitioners to provide effective services.
- influencing decision-makers to understand the needs of thousands of people coping with a family member or friend’s drink and/or drug problem.
Our local project is funded by East Sussex County Council and was set up at the end of 2020.
We work with adult family members in 1:1 sessions, through our peer support group and with an Information & Skills programme. Some people will go on to take up our counselling services.
We work with many partners in treatment and recovery projects, adult social care, probation, health and community support, encouraging them to take a ‘whole family approach’ which recognises the impact on family and friends. We provide specialist training to promote a stronger understanding in the treatment and recovery sector of the impact of someone’s drug/alcohol problems on those around them.
