Communication, Learning, Autism Support Service (CLASS)

About

The Communication, Learning and Autism Support Service (CLASS) offers support, advice and training to mainstream schools and academies. We work with other services to support children and young people to access full-time education.

Our staff hold additional qualifications in:

• Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), including Autism,
• Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD), and
• Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

CLASS is an approved Neuroinclusive Education Network (NEN) training hub and offer a range of autism-specific training packages across the school year.  CLASS also offer school staff training on other neurodiversity.

CLASS can provide:

• An experienced team of Advisers and Practitioners
• High quality training and support to all education settings (5-19)
• A link Adviser for every primary and secondary school in East Sussex
• A service to autistic children and young people through Spectrum

Core Activities CLASS Offers

• Adviser and Practitioner consultations leading to action planning and strategies to support inclusion and progress.
• Working with school staff to develop their practice, including offering training and access to bespoke workshops.
• Working with children and young people, and/or modelling to a staff member.
• Practitioner led consultations/modelling to support transition for all children entering their reception year.

The CLASS Link Adviser:

• acts as a key point of contact within CLASS for the school
• helps to support early identification and intervention based on needs
• helps SENCOs to build capacity in the school, identifying training needs and areas for development
• supports whole school understanding of SLCN, Autism, Specific Learning Difficulties & ADHD
• signposts to appropriate training, best practice and other resources.

CLASS offer support for individual children and young people at each stage of the Graduated Approach. Where support is required at an enhanced level, schools can talk to their CLASS Link Adviser and make a referral via the Education Front Door if appropriate.
