We believe that writing can positively change lives. Little Green Pig’s vision is that all children and young people have the space, time and encouragement to write for pleasure and purpose, the opportunity to share their stories and a platform to be heard.
We enable children and young people across Sussex to experiment with writing in all its forms and to share their work with a wide audience. Our priority is to work with young people who live or go to school in areas of deprivation, or who face challenging circumstances. From anthologies, tour guides, comics, soap operas, to films, our projects challenge perceptions of what writing can be and deliver tangible outcomes including improved confidence, literacy and communication skills.
In collaboration with writers, artists, schools, families, cultural and partner organisations, we nurture children’s imaginations and self-expression through in-depth engagement by our team of workshop leaders and multi-talented story mentor volunteers. We provide innovative and inspirational learning experiences that place creativity and the joy of writing at their very heart, teasing out each child’s unique voice.
We run four After School Clubs in East Brighton, Moulsecoomb, central Brighton and Worthing. We host multi-sensory, highly immersive residencies in primary schools as well as themed projects for young people working alongside teaching staff and service providers to offer them unique creative experiences. We publish and broadcast their work, be it a radio show, a graphic novel, a soap opera, a travel guide or an anthology of poetry and produce resources and masterclasses to encourage young writers to let their imaginations roam. We work with cultural partners to provide a platform for young people to have their voices heard and their stories shared.
