East Sussex Library Service - Step into Reading adult literacy programme

Step Into Reading provides free, one-to-one adult literacy reading sessions with East Sussex Libraries.

The programme is for adults aged 18-80 from those who cannot read at all, to those who want help with confidence in reading. Mentors can also progress to support spelling and writing if requested . Step into Reading is suitable for adults with any reading difficulty, for example dyslexia. The programme is also suitable for adults whose first language is not English, provided they can understand and speak conversational English.

Adults learn best when the referring service continues with joint support alongside the library service. We will be in touch to discuss your referral and see whether the person you are referring is learner-ready and able to engage. The programme continues over many months and learners will need support and encouragement as the progress on their learning journey.
