Description

National Poetry Day Readings with Chalk and Stream Collective

1 October 2026, 6.30pm – 7.30pm at Lewes Library

The theme of this year's National Poetry Day is 'Wonder' .  We are delighted to be able to welcome the Chalk and Stream Collective to Lewes library to celebrate the wonder of nature with readings from their poetry collection Winterbourne Poems, created in collaboration with Love Our Ouse.  We will also be sharing our annual collective poem on the theme of Wonder, written by visitors to Lewes Library in the preceding weeks.  The event will include a 15 minute writing workshop so you can explore your own creativity and sense of wonder.

The members of Chalk and Stream Collective who will be reading are: Lola Bunbury-Davies, Penny Jones, Ruth Lawrence and Olivia Sprinkel, with Natasha Padbury from Love Our Ouse. Illustrations to accompany the poems are by Michelle Hockey.

Suitable for ages 16 +

Free but booking is essential. Book here

The event will be on the first floor. Lift access is available. We are unable to provide refreshments but you are welcome to bring your own non-alcoholic drink.

The Winterbourne Poems project has been generously supported by The National Trust and the Changing Chalk Community Grants Scheme, and funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, with thanks to National Lottery players.
